Low Key Bottle Shot

Pleasanton CA Commercial Photographer Product Photography, Portrait, Catalog, Archetecture San Ramon, Walnut Creek, Dublin, Livemore, Hayward, East Bay

A clear glass bottle, a transparent amber liquid, an etched label on the front (brand name) and back (map) made for an interesting photographic challenge. Each feature had to be addressed and lit individually.

Two 12″ x 48″ soft boxes (camera right) behind a diffusion panel provided the highlights on the right side of the bottle and the source of the bounce reflection highlight on the left from a silver card. A cut-to-shape gold foiled reflector card was placed behind the bottle and lit from the side with a snooted/gridded Quantaray QDC900WA speedlight to illuminate the liquid and the labels.  A pin hole size snooted  Sunpak 266 was aimed at the paper label and another 12″ x 48″ overhead soft box  provided the subtle top rim light.  Lastly a light fitted with a 10″ round reflector provided the separation light on the white background paper. Soft boxes and background light were powered by Norman LH2000 heads.

Canon 1Ds mkIII, 135mm f/2.8 SF, 1/160 sec @ f/18, ISO 100. Triggered via Quantum radio and optical slaves.
